FreeSWITCH
FreeSWITCH was born by one of the developers deeply involved with the Asterisk project, who imagined
a different approach to the engines development and featureset. It started small, eliminating some
of the limitations of the original Asterisk solution, and grew ever since, to become a fully fledged
open source telephony engine with vast featureset.
Being a from the scratch written system, built up on the experience gathered enhancing Asterisk, the
flexibility of the project was one of the main goals of lead developer, Anthony Minessale. The outcome
of this attitude is the FreeSWITCHes ability to scale up from being a soft-phone like software, through
the PBX functionality, up to the fully fledged multiprotocol soft switch.
