OpenSER/OpenSIPS/Kamailio
OpenSER, and SER (with their 'children' - OpenSIPS and Kamailio) are probably the most widely
used Open Source proxies for the nowadays most popular VoIP protocol - SIP.
Many things can be said about OpenSER, and they all come in favour of different needs being fulfilled
by one or the other variants. Being completely open source, robust and flexible system, OpenSIPS/Kamailio
are eagerly used by both, the vendors, as a base for their product offering, building a vast market for
applications based on one or another of the SIP Proxy implementation, as well as the telco bussineses,
building their services as a in-house solutions, or as a base for a solutions provided by vendors.
The great flexability of this software, allows it to be easily used not only as a SIP proxy, but
also as a general SBC (session border controller) network element.
