PSTN/CO Switches
At the service providers premises, there is the other end of every telephone line that's avaliable
to customers. That's where the PSTN switches and other vital parts of the telecom infrastructure
are located. They provide the services we're so much used to in everyday life - the dialtone, call
routing, response tones (busy, unavailable, etc). Depending on the make and model they provide additional
services like music on hold, voicemail, caller name lookup and so forth. That's the heart of the traditional
telecom service.
