PSTN Bootcamp (DSS1 & SS7)
During the PSTN bootcamp, the participants will have a chance to learn both the basics and
more advanced topics surrounding the traditional, digital telephony subjects, concerning mostly
Digital Subscriber System No. (DSS1, aka EuroISDN) which is the leading standard in Europe for
digital subscriber lines, and Signaling System No.7 (SS7), which is used mostly to interconnect
telco switches. The participants will be able to learn the basic signaling concepts, the possibilities
that comes with both of the protocols, their main advantages, disadvantages as well as the differences
between them. Common ways of configuring both protocols, as well as standard tools for analyzing and
troubleshooting problems with this protocols will be shown.
The training will also have a segment about interconnections of the digital telephony protocols
with the next generation ip based protocols like H.323 and SIP variants.
Duration: 4 days
Prerequisites: At least basic knowledge of layered protocol designs especially the 7 layer
OSI model.
